The fact that a dangerous tsetse flies have found their vanquisher in Slovakia is probably well known by everyone. Since 2008, in Bratislava Hatchery Institute of Zoology SAV scientists have been carrying out controlled breeding of sleeping sickness transmitter and sterilization of males that are later released back into the nature in Africa.
In fact, tsetse flies represent one of the key limits for rural development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The insect transmit diseases that are fatal to humans and livestock - sleeping sickness nagana. One of the most effective methods to clean up the area of tsetse flies is their sterilization. In this project we involved indirectly as hatchery system is heated by heating cables of our company.
